CAVAL (aka "cooperative action in Victorian academic libraries") is a scheme allowing tertiary students to borrow elsewhere.
A brief description is given on StudentWeb. A more detailed explanation and FAQs are found on the CAVAL website.
Please obtain your borrowing card and brochure of participating libraries from any branch of the BHI library.
"Reciprocal borrowing" is a responsibility CAVAL libraries take very seriously, so take particular care to return items on time. Otherwise you may be noted as delinquent, and blacklisted.
Usually books are available for loan but periodicals are not. If you wish to locate a particular book, or search the catalogue of a participating library, go to TROVE.
Degree students at BHI are eligible for free interlibrary loans.
You can identify books of interest through any of the following links.
Victorian College of the Arts library
TROVE for just about every library in Australia
Journal articles of interest are best found by searching the BHI or SLV databases, or utilising authors' bibliographies. You will only need to request an interlibrary loan if the item is not available in full text on the database. Alternatively you can browse the contents of particular periodicals online, then locate them as above. Hint: in Trove limit to "Journals" or you may retrieve hundreds of books as well.
A variety of resources are listed in MusicAustralia.
To request the InterLibrary Loan, please download the interlibrary loan request form from StudentWeb, print it, and sign. Your original signature is needed for copyright purposes. Note that you will need to be logged into StudentWeb to verify that you are a degree student.
