Music Industry: Library Resources

A library guide for Diploma of Music Industry (Business), Associate Degree in Applied Business (Music Industry), and Bachelor of Applied Business (Music Industry) students

Books on the shelf

Useful books for exploring Music Industry are in several shelf locations.

Books on music as an industry are clustered at 338.4778.

Books on music copyright and law are in the range 346 - 348, but it's best to search the catalogue for an exact call number.

Music in general is in the 780s, so a lot of books on jobs in the industry, and business and legal aspects of composing, performing, and recording, are found here.

Many general books on business will be at the Elgar Library- if you place a Hold on them, they can be sent to Nelson Library .

You can find a LibGuide on business management in general, at http://libguides.bhtafe.edu.au/management

We subscribe to hundreds of journals online! You'll find them under Publications on the Discovery catalogue.

These are useful databases for Music Industry.

  • Business Source Premier
  • Australian and New Zealand Reference Centre
  • Vocational Studies Complete (good for working in the music industry, and some music trade statistics)
  • Academic Search Elite (a good general academic source)

AustLII (available on the Web) is an excellent resource for Australian law and legal matters.

Trove (also available on the Web) is the ultimate resource for finding books in Australian libraries.  You can borrow from any University or TAFE in Victoria via the CAVAL reciprocal borrowing scheme. Ask us how!
