How can you tell if the website you are using is reliable? Ask yourself if it is CRAAP.

The CRAAP test is a way to evaluate the reliability and trustworthiness of online resources. CRAAP is an acronym for

Currency

  • How old is the information that you are looking at, is it now out of date?
  •  When was the last time the page was updated?

Relevance

  • Who is the information intended for?
  • Are you the intended audience and does it meet your needs?

Authority

  • What is the source of this information?
  •  Is it sponsored by someone and do they have financial gain from providing this information or from advertising?

Accuracy

  • Is the information reliable and correct?
  • Does the resource offer opinion or emotion?
  • Is there evidence to support the information?

Purpose

  • Why has the piece been written?
  • Does it want to teach you something, sell you something or persuade you of something?

Consider these points when looking for information and resources online.
