Harvard Referencing (Australian Government Author-date style)

Box Hill Institute will be changing the Harvard Referencing style to the standard for Australian Government writing and editing in 2026.

News Articles From an Electronic Database

Include a DOI if the article has one. If not, include the database name in brackets at the end. No accessed date required. 

In-text citation:

Melbourne's most valuable tree is a 135-year-old Morton Bay fig in South Yarra, valued at $1.7 million (The Age 2024). 

Reference list:

Name of Newspaper (Day Month Year) ‘Title of article: subtitle of article’, Name of Newspaper. doi or database in brackets. 

The Age (23 November 2024) 'Registers reveal Melburnians' love for trees', The Age. (Australia/New Zealand Reference Centre Plus).

In this example, there is no author, so instead you put the title of the newspaper.
